Along Abbey Road // Know Your Style

Hello, Gentri Lee readers! My name is Abbey and I blog over at

Along Abbey Road

. My style is inspired by a little bit of everything. I would classify my style as "free" because I like trying to play around with a lot of different looks and trends. One day I might wear something inspired by a 60's film I just watched, and the next it could be something very minimal and edgy from a magazine, or a cute outfit I saw on a person in the line at the grocery store. But if I am being honest, most of my style is determined by what is going to be functional while running around after two wild, little boys since I am a mom now; and that is basically jeans, a tee, and sneakers. Good thing the minimal trend is so popular right now, right?

My favorite places to shop are

LOFT

,

Target

, thrift stores,

Anthropologie

,

Nordstrom

, and random boutiques.

When looking for your own style, I would say just pay attention to what makes you happy and what continually draws you in. Do you love bright colors? Are you a sucker for patterns? Do you like all the frills and bows, or do you like sharp, sleek lines with muted colors? Go through your

Pinterest

boards and look for the things you keep pinning. I promise you will start to see a pattern of things that speak to you. Then, make yourself a list of three specific items you would like to buy next time you go shopping. Things you feel that would be a good staple in your wardrobe and can be mixed and matched. Once you repeat this a few times you will find you are building a closet you actually love and defines your style! Also, purge all of the old stuff you never wear. Coming from a clothing hoarder, I KNOW how hard it can be, but you are not going to wear it if you haven't worn it in over a year. No, not even to that special event you've made up in your mind that will probably never happen. Just chuck it. You will feel ten times better and more focused, I promise!

When looking for inspiration I usually turn to blogging, is that lame? I suppose that's why I started my blog four years ago. I was wearing cute clothes for my job every day and wanted to document them somehow. Over time, it assisted me in figuring out my likes and dislikes, and what looks good on my body. It also helped me to be confident in what I like, even if other people think it is ridiculous and ugly. To each their own, you know?

As I mentioned above, I do define my style as "free." I definitely like to try out new things and am a firm believer in reinvention, but I am finally at the point of knowing what generally works and doesn't work for me. Basically, it is all about what makes you feel good and brings a smile to your face!

Thanks so much for having me, Gentri!
