Sol Duc & Marymere Falls, Olympic National Park // Honeymoon Road Trip Pt. 4

Read Pt. 1 // Pt. 2 // Pt. 3

Our second day in Olympic National Park was spent hiking to waterfalls and driving through dense forest. We began by stopping at Crescent Lake, which is a very large and very clear lake in the middle of the park. Each angle of Crescent Lake offered a new view that we couldn’t resist capturing. The ranger station for Crescent Lake is also where our first hike began, so after taking in the lake view, we began our walk to Marymere Falls.

This hike was an easy one, with only a little elevation gain right at the end. The trail was of course, lined with large, moss covered trees, and there were even a few bridges to cross, which always make things more fun and interesting! The waterfall is in a small cove, and the viewpoint puts you level with it, which offers a beautiful perspective. The light was shining through the trees, and bouncing off the water, creating a truly magical picture.

Once we had completed our first hike, we drove across the road to the other side of Crescent Lake, took in the view from there, then continued towards our next destination—Sol Duc Falls. The drive alone was worth it, as we were following the river along the wooded road, stopping a few times to take in the views. The hike to Sol Duc Falls is also an easy trail, with only a slight elevation gain (on the return). And once we rounded the corner and step onto the bridge, overlooking the falls, we never wanted to leave. We stood on the bridge for a good fifteen minutes; talking about how beautiful it is and taking it all in, then followed the trail up the side of the waterfall. Once we had our fill of photos and videos, we decided it was time to make our way back into town for dinner and a good nights rest before a long day of driving.
